Question
What is the ruling on buying expensive, luxury cars, and also expensive, luxury furniture?
Answer
Praise be to Allah.
This is a matter that is broad in scope. If the purchaser can afford it, and his aim is not to squander wealth or show off; rather he wants to buy something that looks good, and he has the money and can afford it, then we do not think that there is anything wrong with him buying a luxury car or fine furniture. We do not know of anything wrong with that, but living a humble life is a good thing. If he shows humility towards Allah and uses things of medium quality, that is better and more economical, so that he will be able to spend the surplus wealth in charity, helping the poor and participating in charitable projects.
Conclusion: being economical and moderate in one’s affairs is preferable.
But if he buys something beautiful and valuable, whether it is a car or furniture, because he can afford it and he wants that beautiful thing, not for the purpose of boasting or competing with others, then there is nothing wrong with that, in sha Allah. End quote.
